Remote Access : Email

Tips on Checking Email from a Remote Location

Any time you are not on campus, you may connect to the campus network and check your email. First, you'll need a computer that is connected to the Internet. Once you are connected, you can check your campus email in one of two ways:

  1. Using a POP email Program
You will need to configure your email program to connect to the UC Davis email server. Installing the UC Davis Internet Tools software package automates the configuration of your email and is highly recommended by UC Davis. However, if you choose not to install UC Davis Internet Tools on your remote computer, you will need another method to configure your email program. IT Express may provide additional resources for students and staff who are having difficulty with email configuration. IT Express can be reached at 754-HELP (754-4357). UC Davis faculty members should contact The Arbor for technology services.

  2. Using Geckomail:
You can also check your email from any computer with access to the Web, using Geckomail. Geckomail is also included in the MyUCDavis portal. To access Geckomail through MyUCDavis, login to MyUCDavis and then click on "My Tools" followed by "Email".
